If you’re like me, you aren’t in the mood to eat much after a hot summer run. But it’s important to refuel! My solution: a post-run smoothie.
Smoothies are a great way to cool down while getting protein and carbohydrates into your system, which are so important for recovery. They also make it easy to work more fruits and vegetables into your diet.
Strawberry Banana Post-Run Smoothie
This is the recipe for my “go-to” smoothie. However, it is so easy to mix it up with other fruits and vegetables! (Don’t worry, I’ll give you some ideas on that as well.)
You’ll notice that I prefer to use almond milk but use whatever type of milk you like! If you don’t have peanut powder on hand regular peanut butter will do – I like peanut powder because it has less sugar, fat, and calories than traditional peanut butter. You can also use almond butter.
Ingredients:
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 banana
1 cup spinach
1 cup almond milk
2 tablespoons peanut powder
Put all the ingredients into a blender and blend until it is a smooth mixture. Pour and enjoy!

Don’t Be Afraid to Experiment
If you don’t like any of the ingredients or don’t have them in the house at the moment, no worries! Use any frozen berry, or even frozen mango. I have also used kale in place of spinach. Another option is to use leftover watermelon or cucumber.
