Over 4,100 people took to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront this past weekend to celebrate Labor Day Weekend with the Chartway Virginia Beach 10 Miler & 5K!
On Sunday, the 10 Milers were all energy and smiles as they lined up in their corrals for their morning start. Their 10 miles of picture-worthy views of the beach, Rudee Inlet, Neptune’s Statue and the Ferris Wheel, were also filled with course entertainment and things to keep cool, including: music stops, Chartway Promise Mile of Smiles, an Elvis Impersonator, the Crimson Thunder Drum Line, popsicles, ice cold towels and Virginia Beach Boy Scouts armed with cold sponges.
After crossing the finish line, participants on both days, grabbed their finisher swag and medals and headed for the beach for an epic Labor Day Beach Party! DJ Joe Fu brought the beats on Saturday, while The Mashup brought out everyone’s dance moves on Sunday. Gourmet Gang served up delicious sandwiches both days, while Nothing Bundt Cakes sweetened the day on Sunday. What made it even better? Being able to wash it all down with soda, water or choice of adult beverage from Kona Big Wave, Michelob Ultra and Bold Rock Cider.
After putting in those sweaty miles and showing off those dance moves, some participants relaxed under one of the after party Shibumi Shades, while others headed to the ocean to dip their toes in…(or just dove right in)!
In addition to all the fun, the event and local run club community raised $9,516 for the Chartway Promise Foundation. This money will go to helping provide medically fragile children and their families memorable experiences. Between both days, race goers cheered on as they witnessed two amazing families receive wishes “gifted” at the post race celebration.
With 1 Miler, 5K, 10 Miler, Live the Life Challenge and Beach Bum medals abound, you could see AND hear everyone sporting their new medals throughout the weekend.
Next year’s Chartway Virginia Beach 10 Miler and 5K Race Weekend has a lot to live up to for next year, but we’re up for the challenge!
