With spooky spirits high, over 5,700 participants took off like creatures of the night at the 2024 Old Point National Bank Wicked 10K Race Weekend presented by Bon Secours!
The sold-out event summoned participants from 33 states and 3 countries to tackle the Monster Mile, 5K, 10K, Bat’s Crew Challenge, or the Pumpkin Smash Challenge!
The witchy weekend brewed up excitement on Friday afternoon with the Packet Pickup and Expo at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. The evening’s Monster Mile started and finished right outside the convention center, where ghosts, witches, and superheroes of all ages crossed the finish line before heading inside to the Monster Mash party.
On Saturday, 5K and 10K participants took off from near the convention center, with the course splitting on 17th Street. Along both courses, runners encountered a candy corn and tootsie roll trick-or-treat stop, the OrangeTheory Fitness cheer zone, water and Nuun stations, and the crowd favorite Thriller dancers. The 10K course also took runners through a DJ and a zombie zone, complete with decoration, fog and brain eating zombies!

After crossing the finish line, participants made their way to the post-race party on the beach, where they enjoyed delicious soup from Baker’s Crust, water, and soda plus adult beverages from Devil’s Backbone and Bold Rock Cider. The crowd boo-gied the rest of the morning away, dancing to the lively return of The Mashup on stage!
Of course, we can’t talk Wicked without talking COSTUMES! From hot air balloons, to Captain Underpants to a homemade Headless Horseman, the costumes this year were on another level. We imagine the judges had a hard time choosing the winners, but 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes were awarded to Individual, Couple, Group, Stroller Group and Kids categories (not to mention the Monster Mile awarded on Friday).
In addition to everything that made this past weekend memorable, the event raised $5,000 for Spike’s K9 Fund, which provides services dogs the training, gear and medical needed for those dogs.
From incredible costumes to perfect weather, and amazing food, beer, and entertainment, it was the ultimate celebration of 15 wicked years! We’re anticipating 2025 to be another year filled with high demand and excitement, so don’t let FOMO get the best of you—secure your spot now for this sell-out event!
