The City of Virginia Beach has a lot to consider when making decisions including the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend. We respect their process, but we can not keep our runners waiting any longer. As a company of runners, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend. This decision has been made out of concern for our runners, volunteers, spectators, and community. While this was a very tough decision, we believe it is the right one. Our top priority is always the health and safety of everyone involved in our events.
A Message from our Race Directors
We love the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend just as much as you do. This is our marquee event, and we are so sad that we won’t be able to watch a sea of green run through the streets of Virginia Beach this year.
We are sad for you. You’ve put in months of training – getting up early, logging long miles, and making sacrifices in your daily lives. We are runners too – we know what goes into getting yourself ready for race day. You’ve spent time and money, and we are so disappointed that we can’t celebrate together on race day.
Please know that we are proud of you for what you have accomplished this training cycle. You’ve done the work. You’ve earned your finisher medal. Thank you for choosing the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend.
Our small staff puts our hearts and souls into every event we put on, and the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend is extremely special to us. We LOVE what we do. We take great care in every aspect of planning for our races – everything from your race swag to on-course fuel, your finish line party to making sure we have enough porta-potties. Permits, tents, participant swag, signage, food, drink, bands, security – the list goes on. We are very aware that you have a lot of choices when it comes to races, and we are grateful that you choose to run with us.
We’re in this together. Thank you again for being a part of our running community. We wish good health for you and your family. We can’t wait until the next time we can all Shamrock On together.
Amy and Jerry Frostick
