Loco’s Favorite Gadgets
I am an early morning runner. I start with my run at 6:15-6:30 with my normal run group(aka Awesome Sauce) every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I am not a huge gadget user, until it got darker and darker on the trails and I started using the Amphipod Swift Clip Luminator .
The first time I clipped it on my hat, I’ll admit, I underestimated it. It’s small—almost suspiciously small—and so lightweight that I wondered if it could really make a difference. Spoiler alert: it absolutely can. The moment I turned it on, the bright LED beam burst to life, cutting through the darkness like a miniature lighthouse attached to my hat!
What I love most is how it clips securely to my hat. I used to wear the normal headlamp, but since I wear hats all the time, there was always a huge shadow right in front of me because of the bill. The Swift-Clip design lives up to its name—it’s fast, fuss-free, and doesn’t leave you fiddling mid-run. No weird bouncing, no tugging at straps, no “where did I put that thing?” panic halfway through your route. It’s just there, doing its job like a loyal little firefly.
The battery life is also impressive. I’ve taken it on weeklong streaks of early morning runs without having to recharge. And when it finally does need juice, it charges up quickly via USB, so you’re not stuck waiting hours before your next workout. The light has 3 modes—bright steady beam, mid, and low light. It’s visibility and versatility wrapped in one sleek clip.
Another underrated perk: it looks cool. Seriously, I’ve gotten actual compliments from the other Awesome Sauce runners! Just kidding, I don’t think anyone looks cool at 6:15 in the morning, especially since we can’t really see each other. But I sure do feel cool!!
So, whether you’re logging miles before sunrise, tackling evening trails, or just want to add a bit of glow to your gear, the Amphipod Swift-Clip Luminator is one of those rare gadgets that genuinely earns its spot in your running kit. It’s small, smart, and seriously effective.
So yes, I might be just a little obsessed. But can you blame me? With this little light leading the way, every run feels brighter—literally and figuratively.
