Chris from Suffolk shares his journey into marathoning and the newfound perspective it gave to his daily life.
“This was my second, and I said would be my last. I did a different marathon a year before with no training, and only had a goal to finish under 6 hours. Don’t know why, maybe cause the course was open for 7 and I wanted an hour buffer?! I did it in 5’58”
For Shamrock, I actually prepared, worked with a really cool running guru and ended up shaving 50+ mins off last year’s time and actually felt good at the end. That being said, something about crossing that finish line with family, friends and the crowd just hits! Completing Shamrock as my second made me realize it can’t be my last. I have weighed a lot more than I do now and running these races, even at my pace, reinforced the belief people can do anything they set their minds to do. All of a sudden traffic jams, commutes, and other daily stress just somehow gets lost while actually running these streets. It is a fresh injection of perspective that very few other things can provide.
I will be back in 2025 and will do my third marathon in Paris as well. J&A has been a big part of my life this last year with all their races and just helps push me. For that, I am thankful.”
