Get ready to run with the mermaids! From the Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K to the Kids Mile—and even the Get Nauti and Get Naut Lite Challenges—there’s a race for every mermaid, sailor, and first mate. Though it wasn’t easy to choose, we’ve highlighted our five treasures from the Chartway Norfolk Harbor Race Weekend presented by Bon Secours!
#1. The Swag:
Get ready to make a splash with this year’s participant swag! These participants shirts are the perfect fit for running with the mermaids this November.
5K: Long Sleeve Tech Hoodie
10K & Half Marathon: Premium Quarter Zip
…and get a load of this bling! With 6 different mermaid-esque medals up for grabs, you’re going to have a hard time choosing your favorite.
Plus, those that have already completed the 2024 Yuengling Shamrock Marathon or Anthem Shamrock Half Marathon, 2024 Crawlin’ Crab Half Marathon and will be completing the Chartway Norfolk Harbor Half Marathon, they will be walking away with the exclusive COVA medal and serious bragging rights for completing the Coastal Virginia Half Marathon Series!
#2. The Course:
On race day, you’ll be taking in the sites of Downtown Norfolk, the vibrant Neon District, charming historic neighbors and the Old Dominion University campus. Ready to “run with the mermaids?” because there are over 20 iconic Norfolk mermaid statues along the Half Marathon course.
No matter the distance you choose, you’ll be met with scenic views, water stops, DJs and lively cheer zones. For 10K and Half Marathoners, don’t miss the famous teeny tiny tarts stop for that extra boost.
#3. The Post-Race Party:
The perfect race day can’t be complete without crossing the finish line and joining in on some J&A post race celebrations! We’ll be bringing the post race party all weekend long (ya know, as we do )! Saturday, DJ Joe Fu will be keeping energy high, and on Sunday, Schooner or Later returns to the stage this year to cruise through your favorite Yacht Rock hits.
Refuel after your run with delicious noms – Saturday, finishers can grab a fresh bagel from Panera Bread, while Sunday runners will enjoy a Gourmet Gang sandwich and a Bundtini from Nothing Bundt Cakes. To wash it down, we’ll have soda, water and Alani Nu energy beverage on-site, plus 21+ options from Devil’s Backbone Brewing, New Belgium Brewing and Bold Rock Cider.
#4. Community:
It’s no secret that J&A Racing loves the Hampton Roads community and takes great pride in the positive impact this race weekend makes.
Chartway Promise Foundation: The premier charity for this weekend partners with companion charities, sponsors, and contributors to provide the financial support needed to make dreams and wishes come to life for children facing medical challenges.
One of the most unforgettable post race moment comes when Chartway Promise Foundation and J&A Racing take to the stage to “gift” a wish to a local child and their family facing medical hardship.
Starting Strides: The Starting Strides program helps kids from economically disadvantaged schools join in the excitement of race weekend. This year, over 160 students from six Norfolk schools will receive a race entry, a pair of shoes, and transportation, allowing them to participate in the Kids 1 Mile and experience the joy of crossing the finish line!
Run Club Regatta: Whether your club is striving to win the Harbor Cup, awarded to the fastest run club, or the Community Award, given to the club making the greatest impact in their community, this race weekend offers the perfect chance to set goals and experience the excitement of race day together.
#5. Make it a Race-Cation:
No matter the distance your taking on, it’s the perfect race weekend to turn into a mini getaway! The 38th Annual Grand Illumination Parade will be lighting up the city, Saturday, November 23, 2024, 7pm and for a tasty (and competitive) treat, put your taste buds to the test with the 10th Annual Great Hot Cocoa War in Downtown Norfolk – kicking off the same weekend. Looking for something fun and festive for Saturday night?! Miracle on Waterside Drive, featuring over-the-top decor, holiday-inspired cocktails and nostalgic energy, will have a special preview night with very limited reservations on Saturday, November 23.
